Assets
Asset management tracks the depreciation of fixed assets — equipment, vehicles, furniture, and property — over their useful life, automatically creating the corresponding journal entries.
Process lifecycle
View existing assets
The assets list shows all recorded assets with: name, acquisition date, original value, depreciation method, first depreciation date, book value, depreciable value, and status. Filter by Current, Closed, or Archived. Group by Date or Asset Model.
Create a new asset
Click New and fill in the asset details.
Compute and confirm depreciation
Click Compute Depreciation to generate the depreciation schedule. Odoo calculates all future depreciation entries based on your settings. Review the schedule, then click Confirm to start the asset running. Depreciation entries will be posted automatically on their scheduled dates (if auto-post is enabled) or manually.
Modify depreciation
If the asset's value or useful life changes, click Modify Depreciation. Enter the reason, new number of depreciation periods, new depreciable amount, and non-depreciable amount. Odoo recalculates the remaining depreciation schedule from the modification date.
Sell or dispose of an asset
When an asset is sold or scrapped, click Sell or Dispose. Select the action (Sell or Dispose), link to the customer invoice if selling, and specify the loss account for any book value difference. Odoo posts the final entries and closes the asset.
Create asset models
Asset models are templates that pre-fill common asset configurations. Create a model for each category of asset your company uses — e.g. "Laptop (3 years, Straight Line)", "Company Vehicle (5 years, Declining)". When recording a new asset, select the model and the fields fill automatically.
